Based Near Comrie in Strathearn

From the very moment the kids meet us in the car park the adventure begins.  Learn how to make your own rope and search out the best fire lighting materials.  Undertake an adventure hike through the forest. Return from your adventure to the camp you have set up and eat the beans you heated on the fire and enjoy your marshmallows.  There is always time for some woodland games as well to round of your afternoon.

• These parties are can start either 9.30am or 2pm and last 2.5 -3hrs.
• Based on 8 youths the price is £100
• This party has worked well with 8-12yr olds. (Younger children can be accommodated and the theme is more Nature Awareness)
• The meeting point is Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre (Map) by Comrie.(We have the ability to be mobile as well)
• Included in the price is a baked potato, beans, orange juice and Marshmallows.

• Per parent and child the price is £45 (Ratio 1:8 Four sets of parent child)
• These work well with 10-14yr olds. (Younger children can be accommodated)

• Included in the price is , beans, orange juice and Marshmallows.
• Bring any additional food to make up your lunch (Burgers & Sausages).

Introduction to  Bushcraft                                   TOP

This is a great course designed to give you a taste of what bushcraft is all about.  Shelter is important and we start by building one using natural materials and tarps .  Fire provides heat and some thing to cook on. You will learn the skills to prepare and cook over a fire.  We also look at the safe use of knives and cover some basic knife projects.

• These courses are from 10am to 4.30pm.
• Per person price £40 (Ratio1:6)
• These are run  for  18+ and or 13 -16yr olds or  9-12yr olds
• The meeting point is Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre (Map) by Comrie.
• Included in the price is  beans, orange juice and Marshmallows.
• Bring any additional food to make up your lunch.

Overnight Bushcraft (Saturday & Sunday)         TOP

All Dates for 2008 are being updated on Monday 15th September

The first day of this course prepares you for an overnight stay in the woods. Dont worry if your shelter is a flop we have tents you can stay in.  In addition to your shelter building we cover knife and axe work. We prepare and collect wood for the fire and try some fire by friction.  With the use of simple knots we create additional camp structures.  On the second day we start to look closer at the forest and the different trees and plants and their uses.  To keep you safe in the outdoors we teach you how to loss proof yourselves and touch. You will also have the chance to set a number of traps.

Adventure Hike                                               TOP

 This course combines hiking with bushcraft. We hike through varied and challenging countryside where we introduce some basic navigation.  On the hike we shall collect some resources for our camp in the woods.  After the hike everything is focused on preparing for a comfortable night.  Next day we can cover many different bush activities before we strike camp and hike back to the start point.

• These parties are from 10am to 3.30pm next day.
• Per person price is £80 (Ratio1:6)
• These are run mainly for  18+ and on occasion 13 -16yr olds.
• The meeting point is Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre (Map) by Comrie.
• Bring :Food to cover your meals, Long trousers, sturdy boots, waterproofs, rucksack, sleeping bag and mat.
• Provided are knife, forks, spoons, cups, plates, cooking utensils

Navigation and Hill Skills                         TOP

This course is designed to introduce you to as many elements of navigation.  Go on, learn in a friendly, fun atmosphere on how to find your way around the hills and glens of Strathearn.  Working in small groups you will be taught how to use a compass and how to  read & move with a map.

Overnight Family Bushcraft Experience        TOP

Arrive and check into your  tent with a wood burning stove.  Camping mats, stoves, lantern and fuel are all provided.  This is a very laid back experience with the option to indulge in some self guided bushcraft.  As well as bushcraft there is the opportunity to  fish almost on your doorstep and visit the Auchingarrich wildlife park.  There are also  plenty of local walks and places of interest.

Some Activities - Bringing  Children to their senses, Bug Hunts , Blind Forest Walk, Insect Games, Natures Colours,  Find a leaf discover a tree, Get to know a stick, Soap Making, Whittling sticks, Making Nettle Cord and Elder Beads, Making a Sundial, Observation Game, Tracking Games.  Nature Hikes.

These games and activities increase young peoples appreciation of the woodland habitats and their importance to the world.

As well as our base at Auchingarrich Wildlife Park can deliver programmes at your local woods.
